Daryl was born in Memphis Tennessee and grew up in Chicago, Illinois where at an early age he walked the streets of Blues with his voice and his guitar. He received his college degree and worked as a commercial artist at the Chicago Tribune newspaper for some years. But musical happenings like doing the background vocals for Tina Turner when she made her comeback, meeting and playing with Muddy Waters, Robert Cray and Eddy C. Campbell among others, made him turn his back to the newspaper desk and dedicate himself to singing and playing Soul & Funky Blues full time.
He wound up in Norway years ago and chose to remain there for family reasons. As he arrived, he brought his own suitcase full of musical experience and with a voice for noone to ignore. After two years of gigin in Scandinavia with his guitar, he was given the opputunity as a vocalist to bring new life to the band “Chicago Blues Meeting” which had its birth some few years earlier in the legendary “Chess Studio” in Chicago. Daryl and this band toured throughout Scandinavia during 1991-1993 and deeply impressed the headliners they shared billings with, like Earl King, Etta James Band and Albert Collins & The Icebreakers.
Daryl took a couple of years off from touring for personal reasons, but spent the nights, still, creating his own tunes, wanting to bring The Blues into a new Millenium with updated funky grooves and lyrics for the younger generation to relate to. In this way he made his own successful comeback, and working with great American and Scandinavian musicians, he once again toured concerthalls and bluesfestivals in Europe performing his own repertoire. One of his first tunes “Its Hard Out There” was inspired by his own experiences, and released along with a few of his other compositions in 1997 it sold more than 50.000 copies. The Blues Magazine “Jefferson” gave him very good critiques and expected to hear much more from him in the future.
In 1998 Daryl met the legendary Paul Weeden Sr., and together they formed a new and exiting, ongoing musical relationship. Today Daryl is more busy than ever doing what he loves the most; Singing and playing for packed houses in Europe while constantly improving his skills and composing new tunes.
